He was a dreamer, and she loved that about him.
Never one to keep his feet on the ground long enough to enjoy its stability,
his heart and mind were always in the clouds, longing for the world beyond.
Earth never seemed to satisfy him.
He would say, "I love you, but I need something more."
He craved the unknown, the possibilities of what else was out there.
So, she let him go.
He set his sights on the moon—
intrigued by its glow,
curious about its makeup.
But once he arrived, he found it cold, distant, lacking depth.
Her beauty could only be appreciated from afar.
Bored and restless, he turned to the stars.
Looking back at Earth, he thought, "She’ll be there when I return."
So, he ventured farther, no longer bound to her atmosphere.
One by one, he explored the heavens,
conquering each star—big and small.
Each shined with a different light, each promised more.
But none held warmth. None held substance.
Slowly, he lost sight of her.
The farther he traveled, the less he thought of Earth.
The excitement of discovering another star faded
as he realized they were all the same.
Some shined brighter than others,
but none of them were her.
None of them were home.
No longer thrilled, no longer intrigued,
he turned back.
Only then did he notice how dark and void the heavens truly were.
Loneliness' begin to settle in.
He missed Earth
her warmth, her depth, her certainty.
She never shined as bright as the others,
but she was everything he needed.
"If I can just find my way back to her, I’ll be okay," he thought.
But as he searched, confusion set in.
The stars were right where he left them—
but Earth was gone.
His heart raced as he remembered the day he left,
so certain she would wait.
Revisiting every place he had been
Recalculating every step but she was no where
Still, he refused to stop
He wandered
Always searching but never finding
His mind reminiscing
back to a time when Earth was his home
His heart ached for the warmth
That he no longer had access to
So, he drifted
Forever lost
Chasing what he has abandoned
But never finding again.
